The Gyokusendo Company Limited, the origin of the Tsuiki Douki industry in Tsubame, sent its products to the Weltausstellung of 1873 in Vienna, the first World Exhibition in which Japan participated. Since then, it has been awarded silver medals in multiple exhibitions including The Chicago World's Fair of 1893, and The Japan-British Exhibition of 1910. Their artistic designs, handcrafted in copper and incorporating distinctive colours have won worldwide acclaim. It has become customary to present Gyokusendo products to the Japanese Imperial Family to celebrate important events.
